Avoid Activities Which Will Cause The Spread of Coronavirus This Festive Season - Dr Dacosta Aboagye Advises

Director of Health Promotion at the Ghana Health Service, Dr Dacosta Aboagye has cautioned Ghanaians to avoid activities which will cause the spread of the new coronavirus in the country.

As the 2020 general election has come to an end and the nation ushers into the Christmas festive season, Dr Dacosta Aboagye has pleaded with Ghanaians who have resorted to demonstration and jubilation to do so in moderation as it is their right.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Dr Dacosta Aboagye was of the view that inasmuch as Ghanaians have the right to embark on a demonstration and jubilation, they don’t have the right to spread the COVID-19.

“As we usher into the Christmas festive season and people are in jubilation after the 2020 general election and others are also embarking on demonstrations, we all have the right to do whatever we want to do but we don’t have the right to spread the COVID-19,” he advised.

He, however, pleaded with Ghanaians to adhere to the safety protocols which have been rolled out, noting that whenever they comply with the COVID-19 safety measures, the infection rate reduces.

He entreated the citizens to wear a mask all the time in this festive season as it is important for the Ghana Health Service and the government of Ghana to see that the citizens are in good health and safe from the pandemic.

“ . . whenever Ghanaians comply with the safety protocols, the infection rate reduces and so if we comply with the safety measures, the infection rate of the COVID-19 which is slightly on the rise will reduce,” he indicated.

He, therefore, made a passionate appeal to the media to give the same attention they gave to the 2020 general election to the fight against the COVID-19 in this festive season as Ghanaians must be educated about the safety protocols and the vaccination which may take place.

“I want to make a passionate appeal to the media to give the same attention they gave to the 2020 general election to the fight against the COVID-19 in this festive season. This is the time we need that attention to educate the population about the safety protocols and the vaccination which may take place soon,” he pleaded.

He acknowledged the role of the media so far in the fight against the COVID-19, hoping that the media will continue to support Ghana Health Service and the government to educate Ghanaians on the need to protect themselves against the pandemic.
