"Arrest Cocaine Dealers In My Area"

The Queen Mother of the Akyem Kotoku traditional area, Nana Akua Asantewaa III has appealed to government to resource the Ghana Police Service, especially personnel at Akyem Oda to enable them crack down on criminal activities in the area. According to the queen, if the police are not able to arrest cocaine dealers in her area, their criminal activities would soon put the citizens of the communities in danger. She emphasized that one of the rogues recently attacked a resident and took away her belongings and in the process the victim sustained various degrees of cutlass wounds. The queen mother stressed that the police upon receiving the information on the assault rushed to the scene to rescue the victim and took her to the Akyem Oda government hospital. Nana Akua Asantewaa III made the disclosure when the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, as part of a familiarization tour of the region paid a working visit to the Chiefs and people of the Akyem Kotoku traditional area. She said the activities of the drug peddlers have affected education in the area since the youth also engage in the business, leading to high rate of school dropout among other social vices. �We are fed-up with the illegal activities of these cocaine dealers, they sometimes even go to the extent of attacking police personnel.� Though the effort of the security service is not enough, Nana AKua Asantewaa III commended them for extending their services to the rural areas in combating crime. �I�m appealing to government to arrest and prosecute the dealers so that peace can be restored back in the area,� Nana Asantewaa III stated. She urged the chief of the Akyem Kotoku traditional area to avoid any negative activities that would have the tendency of encouraging the youth to disturb the peace of the area. The Eastern Regional Minister assured that the fight against the illicit drugs trade remain a priority of government. �Government is taking the necessary measures to expand the capacity of drug enforcement agencies and also beef up security in the region,� he stated.
