The Supreme Court on Wednesday scolded Dr Dominic Ayine, a spokesperson for the petitioner and former deputy attorney general, for inappropriate body language during day three of the 2020 election petition hearing.
While Tsatsu Tsikata, the lead counsel for the petitioner was on his feet, Chief Justice Anin Yeboah said, “…Mr Ayine please you are a senior member of the court when the Bench engages counsel, you don’t sit down and make gestures as if you are part of the legal team. I’ve been watching you. Please this is not fair. You see the time we heard you clear when an objection was taken.
“When the representatives were announced I even asked Mr Tsikata whether they were restricting themselves to only two counsel. Mr Tsikata I think you remember the very day, and you said you were with only Mr Lithur and they were recorded as such. Mr Ayeni please out of respect for you, please don’t do that again.”
Dr Ayine then apologized to the court. “I apologise, My Lord,” Dominic Ayine said and took his seat.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has adjourned the 2020 election petition to Tuesday 26 January 2021 after a mini showdown in court between Tsatsu Tsikata, lawyer for the petitioner, and the judges on the panel, on Wednesday.
Tsikata appeared shocked when the judges ordered that witness statements should be filed by Thursday among other consequential orders, arguing they are not “super humans” to meet the timelines.
