Nose Masks At Unreasonable Prices: "Regulate The Market" - Dr. Ben Okyere To Authorities

Ghana's COVID-19 case count has currently skyrocketed leaving government and many concerned Ghanaians worried about what might have contributed to the recent numbers.

The country has recorded 58,822 confirmed cases and 56,286 Recoveries/Discharge with 358 deaths.

391 new cases have been recorded bringing the active case to 2,178.

With regional breakdown, the Greater Accra Region has recorded the highest cases standing at 33,241, followed by Ashanti Region with 11,484 and North East Region is the Region with the lowest record of cases standing at 22.

Despite the figures, schools have resumed but the government says it has made adequate preparations to safeguard the students and pupils.

Delivering his 22nd nation address on COVID-19, President Nana Akufo-Addo admonished Ghanaians to strictly observe the safety protocols and also charged the security forces to enforce the law on offenders.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the prices of nose masks and hand sanitizers have seen an astronomical increment as vendors think now is the time to cash in.

Speaking on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', Dr. Benjamin Okyere Ankrah, a lecturer at the Central University in Accra, slammed the traders and vendors of nose masks and hand sanitizers to stop their unreasonable prices.

He wondered why any person would seek to enrich himself or herself at the expense of human life knowing very well that wearing nose masks and using hand sanitizers are the precautionary ways to stay alive during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Benjamin Ankrah called on the appropriate authorities to immediately regulate the market to discourage the exploitation of the COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) market.

''How do we regulate our market?'' he questioned.

''People are exploiting parents. It's not good...We must have people to regulate the market. We have allowed people to misbehave for far too long'', he charged the authorities.
