COVID-19: We Don’t Have Encouraging Infection Rate In Our Hands - Dr Nsiah Asare

President Akufo-Addo’s Advisor on Health, Dr Anthony Nsiah Asare has indicated that the increasing infection rate of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country is not encouraging for citizens to joke with the safety protocols put in place by the government.

According to him, tests conducted on some Ghanaians have shown that the country has recorded the new variants from South Africa, UK and Brazil apart from those travellers who were detected at the Kotoka International Airport with the new variants.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Dr Nsiah Asare disclosed that the new variants of COVID-19 have the fastest rate of infecting people couple with the fact that many Ghanaians have underlying health conditions, hence the need to protect themselves from contracting the new variants.

“We did the test at the Airport, we recorded the new variants and now we have people in Ghana who are positive for the new variants from South Africa, UK and Brazil. This is why we are calling on everyone to protect themselves and wear the mask so that they will not be infected with the new variants,” he disclosed.

“The new variants have the fastest rate of infecting people and besides a lot of people have underlying health conditions,” he stressed.

He, however, alluded to the fact that the behaviour of the new variant of the COVID-19 has pushed Scientists who came up with the vaccine to go back to the table and embark on more research to deal with any new variants that might come again.

Touching on the case count of the COVID-19 in the country, Dr Nsiah Asare said that the case count is still on the rise in the country.

“Our case count of the COVID-19 in the country is not encouraging; it is on the rise and that is why it has become very important for Ghanaians to adhere to the preventive etiquette put in place by the government . . . the number of deaths is also on the rise,” he said.
