Jean Mensa Never Promised To Mount The Witness Box - Nana B

A spokesperson for President Nana Akufo-Addo on the 2020 election petition, Henry Nana Boakye has indicated that the Chairperson of the 1st Respondent, Jean Mensa in her affidavit never promised to mount the witness box.

According to him, Jean Mensa in her affidavit rather said that when she gets time to mount the witness box and never promised to mount it at all cost as the lawyers of the petitioner are saying in court.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the National Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) wondered why the lawyers of the petitioner who are conducting their own case are now depending on their opponent for evidence.

“So, the lawyers of the petitioner had closed their case with the expectation and the thought that Jean Mensa will mount the witness box for them to cross-examine her, and that is why they closed their case,” he posited.

He stressed that the lawyers of the petitioner were rather relying on Jean Mensa to get the evidence they need and not to rely on their case simply because Jean Mensa has said in an affidavit that she will answer some questions when she mounts the witness box.

To him, both the 1st and 2nd Respondents have already informed the Supreme Court from the beginning that the petitioner does not have any cause of action; thus, the burden of proof was on the petitioner and not on the defendants as the lawyers of the petitioners was seeking to do.

“You are the one conducting your case and then you have to depend on your opponent . . . you were expecting that your opponent will mount the witness box to cross-examine her to get evidence,” he wondered.

“ . . since their opponent did not give them what they want, they are seeking relief to reopen their case and serve a subpoena for Jean Mensa. It is very hard to understand the petitioner. Justice Ollenu said something in court yesterday that it will be complete madness for a party in a suit to rely on the evidence of the opponent," he chided.
