President's Promise To Make Accra The Cleanest City Was A Bold Decision - Cecilia Abena Dapaah

The Minister-designate for Water Resources and Sanitation, Cecilia Abena Dapaah has described the promise by the President to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa by the end of his first tenure in office, as a bold decision that requires the effort of all people in the country to succeed.

She said the President's vision is on course.

Cecilia Abena Dapaah made the statement in response to a question when she appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament for vetting.

She cited funding, littering, and the bad attitude of some individuals towards sanitation as some of the major challenges facing the Ministry in promoting sanitation in the country.

In response to a question by Hon Rev Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South on the state of Water Security in the country, Cecilia Abena Dapaah said the country would have been quite safe if it had not been the perennial problem of pollution of water bodies as a result of illegal mining.

She, therefore, appealed to the public to help protect the country's water resources for the present and future generations.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo pledged to make Accra the neatest and best city in Africa by the end of his first term of office.

“The commitment we are making and which I want you all to take with me is that by the time we end our four-year term, Accra is going to be the cleanest city in Africa,” he stated.

The President made the pledge in an address he delivered after he had been installed a Chief by the people of Jamestown and the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council under the title Nii Kwaku Abladey Okudzeaman I, which means ‘Royal Warrior who champions the welfare of his people’.
