Prez Akufo Addo To Present State Of The Nation Address Next Tuesday

Majority leader and Minister-Designate for Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, has disclosed that the President, HE Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo will on March 9 present his first state of the nation address in his second term to the House.

According to him, the president has a constitutional mandate to brief and inform Ghanaians on the state of the country, as well as his administration's plans for the nation.

Speaking on Okay Fm's Ade Akye Abia program, he added that "the House reconvened today (Tuesday) after they took a month break to purge themselves of COVID 19" which had ravaged the entire world; not excluding the Legislature.

The State of the Nation address is in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 constitution which states that “the President shall, at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before a dissolution of Parliament, deliver to Parliament a message on the state of the nation”.

Also known as SONA, the state of the nation address was first implemented under the administration of the second President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.

The President is expected to speak on the ravaging impact of the COVID-19 and other sectors of the economy and social development.
