NDC Member of Parliament for Banda Constituency in the Bono Region, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim has described the State of the Nation Address delivered by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the shortest ever in the history of the country.

According to him, the outcome of the State of the Nation Address delivered by the President indicates that H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo did not prepare very well before coming to Parliament to address the nation.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Hon Ahmed Ibrahim hinted that Parliament is finding it difficult to engage in a fruitful debate about the State of the Nation Address as the Finance Committee of Parliament for the first time cannot contribute to the debate in the House.

“With the State of the Nation Address delivered by the President and the debate that comes with it, you will realise that the Finance Committee cannot contribute to it because the financial details are not there,” he indicated.

“I don’t want to say that the debate we have started about the State of the Nation Address is empty, but looking at the circumstances the President finds himself, I think that he could not prepare very well before delivery the State of the Nation Address. This is the shortest State of the Nation Address in the history of this country from 1993 that has been compiled in Parliament,” he asserted.

The lawmaker for the people of Banda Constituency intimated that the expectation of the Minority was not met as President Akufo-Addo failed to give an account of the state from 2017 that he assumed office to 2020 that his 4-year mandate came to an end.

“We were expecting the President to have given an account of the state from 2017 when he assumed power to 2020 and then roll in the budget he intends to work with, in 2021. That was the way we were expecting it to be but it did not happen that way. What happened was the seasonal ritual he has to come and perform in Parliament as the law demands of him,” he lashed out.
