Easter: Be Alert! Arrest Any Person Who Breaches COVID-19 Protocols - GMA President Charges Police

President of the Ghana Medical Association(GMA), Dr. Frank Ankobea has charged the law enforcement agencies to be on alert during the Easter celebrations.

Speaking in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" programme, the GMA President warned against people crowding up in churches and other public places to celebrate the Easter fearing people may contract and spread the deadly viral disease.

Dr. Ankobea's admonition to the law enforcement agencies follows a decline in Ghana’s active Coronavirus cases.

The decline is attributed to the roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccines in the country.

Government of Ghana received the first batch of the Covid-19 vaccine, AstraZeneca, in February 2021.

The AstraZeneca vaccine is one of two vaccines that have been approved and declared safe-for-use by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

Ghana’s active COVID-19 cases currently stand at 2,641 after 106 cases were recorded.

The country has recorded 737 deaths.

Dr. Ankobea appealed to President Nana Akufo-Addo to direct the law enforcements agencies to every nook and cranny ensuring no one breaches the preventive protocols.

"We plead with the President to empower the Police, District Assemblies, Metropolitan Assemblies and all the law enforcement authorities to be on alert and arrest persons who breach the COVID-19 protocols for we, Ghanaians, are too recalcitrant," he said.
