NDC Approved “Lame-duck” Ken Ofori-Atta To Aid Our Electoral Fortunes In 2024 - Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has revealed reasons why the Minority Caucus on the Appointments Committee approved Finance Minister-designate Ken Ofori-Atta.

And it is shocking to the core as it is vain.

According to him, there was a consensus at the NDC's hierarchy that the Minority Caucus approves Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister, because in their estimation, he has performed abysmally and keeping him at the helm of affairs at the sensitive position will inure to the benefit of the opposition party in the 2024 General elections.

He was speaking in an interview with Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show.

The NDC Chief Scribe held that the Finance Minister is a lame-duck one, and Ghanaians will come to know of his lousy record and the bad deals he supervised as the Finance Minister.

We have strategies as a political party and some of the NDC leaders sat down and considered the approval of the nominee as to whether passing or failing him, which one will be in the interest of the party. So, we all decided that if we allow him to be the finance minister, it will be in the interest of the NDC....

“We realised during the vetting of the finance minister, he was exposed in all his wrong deeds...The banks he collapsed, PDS deal and bad financial decisions he superintended over; we needed him to be there to remind Ghanaians what he has wrought on this country”, he added.

He reiterated that the approval of Ken Ofori-Atta is meant to “tell Nana Akufo-Addo that if it is this lame-back finance minister he wants to still be in control of the country’s finances, so be it, and that is why we told our people to approve him”.

Mr Asiedu Nketia however explained that the NDC issued a pre-emptive statement to calm its members over the approval of the Finance Minister to avoid a misunderstanding and also to signal that the party is aware of the approval of the Finance Minister, regardless of his flaws in the first term in office as the Finance Minister.

Due to the misunderstanding and hullabaloo that erupted in the party in the wake of the approval of the first batch of ministerial nominess, we decided to issue the statement to calm our support base and to further assure them that the hierarchy was in the know of the finance minister's approval”, he maintained.
