No Vaccine Has Expired In Northern Region - GHS Debunks

The Ghana Health Service has debunked reports that some COVID-19 vaccines in the Nothern Region had expired.

The Northern Region began its COVID-19 vaccination exercise on March 26, 2021, with about 17,000 doses targeting health workers.

The exercise, which was intended to last for five days was extended due to some technical challenges and low turnout by the health workers.

The vaccines were said to expire on Friday, April, 16.

News of the vaccine expiration appears to have revived fears but according to the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, the news was misreported.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye described the reports as falsehood and proceeded to give a clearer picture of the situation.

According to him, the vaccines in the Northern Region were in excess of 480 and the Health Service couldn't deploy them, hence the vaccines have rather gone to waste.

''What was reported that some have expired in the Northern Region is not true. It's rather 480 that were in excess and we couldn't deploy then'', he stated.
