'The Next Two Weeks Are Going To Be Hell': Doctor In The Eye of India's Covid Storm Says 'The Situation Is Critical' As Patients Die Outside Packed Hospitals

A doctor at the heart of India's coronavirus outbreak has warned that the next two weeks 'are going to be hell'.

Dr Shaarang Sachdev, from the Aakash Healthcare Super Speciality Hospital in the hard-hit capital of Delhi, said the country is experiencing its worst point of the pandemic so far and described the current situation as 'critical'.

For five consecutive days until Monday, India was reporting record one-day Covid cases figures that topped out above 350,000 cases. Today's figure is 323,144, though experts warn that is likely the result of less testing at the weekend and not a sign that the wave of infections is slowing.
