Galamsey Fight: Let's Continue To Engage And Persuade 'Galamseyers' - Allotey To Abu Jinapor

Social commentator, Bernard Allotey Jacobs has offered significant solutions to curbing illegal mining (galamsey) in the country.

According to Allotey Jacobs, what will help stop the menace is persuasion.

He called on the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, to adopt this method in addressing illegal mining.

Allotey Jacobs, making submissions on Peace FM's morning show ''Kokrokoo'', charged the Minister not to sit in his office but go to the communities where illegal mining activities are happening and engage with the players.

"If they're indeed ready, they shouldn't sit at the Minstry of Lands and Forestry but hit the ground. They should go to every place where galamsey is taking place. Look, engage the players in that business; that will solve the problem. When you're clamouring for war, I will clamour for persuasion," he said.

Illegal mining (galamsey) has over the years been the bane of the country as successive governments keep fighting but to no avail.

But Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor won't give up as he has pledged his full commitment and determination to stop illegal miners, hoping to protect the country's lands and waterbodies.

He has, since his swearing in as Minister, been interacting with stakeholders in the mining sector on his plans to curb the menace.
