Pressure is mounting on the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Birim North District Assembly in the Eastern Region, Mr Remond Damptey as some youth in the area call his academic qualification into question.

According to the youth, the DCE who is also seeking a reappointment had included in his academic qualifications, a certificate purported to have been awarded him by the University of Cape Coast.

Documents made available to the 'Ghanaian Times' in Accra revealed that Mr Damptey, as part of his reapplication for the position, submitted his Curriculum Vitae to the Constituency Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and attached to it was the certificate.

The certificate which had the logo of the University of Cape Coast embossed on it read; “This is to certify that Remond Nana Damptey having pursued the prescribed programme of study at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana and having passed the prescribed examination has on the 24th day of October, 2020 been admitted to the Degree of Bachelor of science with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in Management.”

The certificate was duly signed by the Registrar with the seal number 00927993.

According to the youth led by Kwabena Opoku, their checks reveal that the name given as the registrar who signed the said certificate was not the registrar of the UCC at the time stated on the certificate.

He said their checks further revealed that the DCE never attended the UCC nor did he pursue any course at the institution, let alone being awarded any certificate.

The youth noted that, following their discovery of the fictitious certificate submitted, Mr Damptey quietly withdrew his earlier application and resubmitted another application with a new Curriculum Vitae to the Vice Chairman of the party, albeit this time around, the CV did not include the Bsc Management qualification from the UCC.

When contacted, the Abirem North Constituency Secretary of the NPP, Mr Osei Yeboah confirmed receiving the application and CV of Mr Damptey with BSc Management Certificate enclosed in the CV.
