Galamsey Menace: Stop Burning Excavators - Kwesi Pratt Blasts Gov't

Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has kicked against the burning of excavators by the Military deployed to mining areas to remove illegal miners and their machinery.

Eight excavators reportedly belonging to one of the leading members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) were recently captured in a viral video being burned in the Eastern Region.

NPP’s National Women’s Organizers, Kate Gyamfua is alleged to own the excavators.

The excavators were burned as part of the Military’s “Operation Halt” which is a joint operation by the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Navy and Ghana Air Forces to stop all illegal miners in Ghana.

The seasoned Journalist, speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', questioned the logic in burning the excavators.

To him, the excavators should rather be seized and used for a different purpose to bring development to Ghana.

"These are excavators used for development as well. If someone is using it to do galamsey and we say we don't like it, why don't you use it for developmental projects," he said.

He added, "A report indicates that the burned excavators amount to a sum of 500,000 dollars, half a million, just gone to waste; why? When we could use these machines to do a lot of things to develop the country; we can use it to do a lot of things which will generate more revenues for the country."
