Kate Gyamfua Is Not Into Galamsey - Nana B Defends NPP Women's Organizer

On Friday, May 7, 2021, 200 soldiers were deployed to mining areas in a renewed effort to stop illegal mining popularly known as galamsey in the country and to restore water bodies in an operation dubbed "Operation Halt".

The soldiers as part of their duties have been charged to remove every excavator belonging to the illegal miners.

However, this has generated a national debate due to the manner in which Excavators are being burned.

Serious Thinking

The National Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B reacting to this said he believes "a lot of thinking went into the decision to burn the excavators", however, "the operatives must be cautious".

"I would want to believe that a lot of serious thinking went into this decision . . . my position is that I think they did a lot of good thinking, but the most important thing is to know that this is a fight against illegal mining and not against legal mining," he intimated.

Kate Gyamfua's bit

Recently, a video surfaced on social media showing some excavators allegedly owned by the National Women's Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfua set on fire.

Some pundits believe this act is proof that no one is going to be spared in the fight to end the galamsey menace.

In reacting, Nana B said the soldiers should have inspected documents to know whether the owners of the excavators were engaging in legal or illegal mining.

He is confident that Kate Gyamfua is not a 'galamsayer'.

"She’s not into illegal mining so I will urge the operatives engaging in this to be circumspect. She has been in the mining business for a very long time. They should separate legal mining from illegal mining . . . we can’t set excavators ablaze even if the person is having documents to prove that he or she is engaging in legal mining," Nana B said on Kumasi-based Hello FM.
