The Speaker of Ghana's Parliament, right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, today hosted the Executive Committee of Wisconsin International University TESCON in a historic visit.

Mrs. Kate Addo, the Director of Public Affairs of Parliament welcomed the recently sworn-in executives of TESCON and requested for the purpose of the visit.

The TESCON president, Prince A. A. Sadat, stated that their courtesy call on the Speaker was to introduce themselves as young political actors and also request the speaker to intervene on the matter of some private universities preventing partizan political activities on their campuses contrary to Article 17, 21(1) and 25 of Ghana's constitution. He also appealed to the speaker of parliament to use his good office to create an avenue for mentorship and training for student politicians to learn under the feet of parliamentarians and also commended the speaker for his passion for youth development and empowerment.

The Speaker of parliament in his introductory remarks commended the TESCON Executives for taking the bold initiative to pay a courtesy call on him. He described the visit as historic because this was the first time a student political wing paid a courtesy call on a speaker who was not from the political party of the incumbent government. The third most important person in Ghana (Number 3) went on to advice the delegation to guard their integrity and attitude because it constitute 70% of their success rate. He also pledge to create the enabling environment for youth empowerment and development. He further promised to pay a working visit to the Wisconsin International University College relative to request of the student leaders.

Other dignitaries present at the event includes Hon. Kofi Attor, a former MP and Special assistant to the speaker and Hon. Samuel Okujato Ablakwa, MP for for North Tongo and ranking member for parliament's foreign affairs committee. Hon. Attor adviced the young politicians to seek knowledge, humble themselves, network well, be patriotic to their nation and show respect to everyone and they will go far in politics.

Hon. Ablakwa on his part, indicated that he had to leave other equally important engagements participate in this novel event. He commended the TESCON Executives for the great show of maturity, nationalism, decency and tolerance and strengthening the tenets of multiparty democracy. He admonished the executives to leverage on their position as the intellectual wing of their political party to do more research, learn and offer alternative policy initiatives and scientific data.

The TESCON president, Prince Sadat, in his concluding remarks thanked the right Honourable Speaker for accepting their request to pay him a courtesy call and expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the speaker, MP's and the staff of parliament for what they learnt from their experience and knowledge in the over an hour engagement. He further indicated their readiness to honour such learning opportunities.
