Kotoka International Airport has earned $1 million in royalties from Covid-19 testing services at the airport rendered by a private healthcare provider, Frontiers Healthcare Services, in addition to earnings received from renting out space in the airport to the provider.

Following a summon to the Minister of Transport by the Houses of Parliament, Hon. Kweku Ofori Asiamah reported a breakdown of the figures on the floor of parliament on June 10, 2021.

He was invited by the Houses of Parliament to provide a progress report on the earnings of the Covid-19 testing service at Kotoka International Airport.

The amount reported by the minister was raised over a four-month period from September 2020 to December 2020 before ECOWAS' directive to members to reduce the payment from $150 to $50.

Frontiers Healthcare Services was contracted by the Ghana Airports Company Limited to provide Covid-19 testing for incoming passengers on arrival at KIA.

The healthcare provider also recently reviewed its pricing following an order by ECOWAS to reduce the price of testing from $150 to $50 for ECOWAS passport holders.
