Kids Talent Shows: Render Accounts Or Face The Law - Bright Appiah Cautions TV Stations

Nowadays, it's a common thing to find media organizations holding shows to unearth the talents of young people, particularly children.

One of such media organizations is TV3 which has earned the enviable attention from families as they stay glued to their television sets to watch ''Talented Kidz''.

Talented Kidz has become one of the entertaining programmes for children as well as showing the nation how talented the kids who come on the show are.

The winner receives a cash prize together with other unique benefits.

Although the children talent shows are commendable, the challenge is that they may be classified as child labour, according to the Executive Director of Child Rights International, Bright Appiah.

Bright Appiah revealed this while speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's morning show ''Kokrokoo'' on Monday, June 14, 2021.

According to Bright Appiah, the children talent shows turn into child labour if the shows are organized to enrich oneself or exploit the children for financial and material gains.

He explained that the shows are to benefit the children only, contrary to this, the organizers will find themselves in serious trouble with the law.

"We should make them render account for what they have used the money in relation to the children. If they can prove that the money they have gained, it is for the welfare of the child, they have invested into the life of the child; that's one of the things it can exonerate but for you to spend the money on yourself (as a parent or guardian), the law will deal with you," he messaged organizers of talent shows designed for children.

Saturday, June 12 marked the World Day Against Child Labour aimed at raising awareness on child Labour and proffering solutions to end it.
