GNAPS Holds Sensitization Forum For Members To Enhance Teaching And Learning

The Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS), zone 12 has held its termly general meeting at Dodowa in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region.

During the meeting, the newly elected Chairperson of the Greater Accra Regional Division of GNAPS in the person of Aisha Asi Akrofi in her speech highlighted the new administration’s ambition.

According to her, the Greater Accra division of GNAPS shall tackle very vital and critical issues such as inculcating the habit of reading in schools especially kindergarten and lower primary. She reiterated that for this new GNAPS administration, their focus is on the infrastructural development of schools, sustainability of schools and delivering quality education at affordable cost.

Aisha Akrofi who is also the C.E.O for Prima Academy based in Tabora, Accra emphasized that, “teachers are the drivers of our vision and we will focus on training them quarterly to ensure they deliver well for better learning outcomes.
GNAPS Greater Accra Region has adopted the jolly phonics programme for all member schools which will be rolled out in August this year. The programme makes kids as young as four years read within the shortest possible time. I will therefore take this opportunity to encourage all private schools who are not yet part of us to do so, to benefit from all these trainings, and to all GNAPS members we ask you to stand with us to make this vision a reality in order for us to develop, sustain and give quality education in our schools”, she noted.

The National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NASIA) Member, Madam Cecilia Acheampongmaah Dwomah also in her presentation to GNAPS members at the meeting, reflected on the Act (2020) which mandates them to register and regulate schools.

The act she said was passed on 26th August 2020. She added that, schools that were established before the Act have six months to register with NASIA and schools that were established after the Act have six months but the deadline to register all schools is December, 2021.

The Association also organized a sensitization forum for GNAPS members led by National Teacher Council (NTC) member, Bernard Cook who highlighted on the need for every teacher in Ghana to be encouraged to acquire professional licensing which will enhance quality teaching and quality education in Ghana.

The Ghana National Association of Private schools (GNAPS), is an association of schools in the private sector in Ghana which has been in existence for over forty years with members in all sixteen regions.
