Indian Covid-19 Delta Variant: Let's Keep Observing The Safety Protocols - Dr Dacosta Aboagye Advises

With the detection of the Indian strain of Covid-19 in Ghana, the Director of Health Promotion at the Ghana Health Service, Dr Dacosta Aboagye has indicated that it will take the wearing of face mask and regular washing of hands to protect Ghanaians from contracting the virus.

According to him, regardless of any variant in this world, the safety protocols which demand wearing face mask and washing of hands have shown to be the surest way to protect people from those variants.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Dr Dacosta Aboagye bemoaned that the fight against the Covid-19 in the country has become difficult for the Ghana Health Service, the Ministry of Health and the government due to the fact that Ghanaians are not taking their personal responsibility to wear the face mask and wash their hands.

“When we started the fight against the Covid-19, our message has always been the safety protocols. What is making the fight difficult is that Ghanaians are not taking their personal responsibility to wear their face masks and wash their hands; they are not doing things that will protect them and that has been very difficult for us,” he bemoaned.

He posited that the government and the respective bodies in the fight against the Covid-19 have done everything possible, making sure that every Ghanaian is aware of the existence of the pandemic and the safety protocols and yet the compliance to the protocols is not encouraging.

“I am sure that there is no Ghanaian who does not know about the existence of the Covid-19 in this country. And there is no Ghanaian who does not know that they have to wear a face mask and wash their hands regularly to protect themselves against the virus and yet people are not adhering to the protocols,” he complained.

“The Government has put measures in place that we should not do certain things in this Covid-19 era yet Ghanaians want to do the very things that they have been advised against. I don’t understand why but we have to find a way as Ghanaians to take up our personal responsibility to help the government, the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health in the fight against the Covid-19. If we don’t play our roles, it will be difficult for the authorities to fight the pandemic; we need to win the fight together,” he cautioned.
