Its Now Difficult For Kotoko To Win The League Title – Mariano Barreto

Asante Kotoko coach Mariano Barreto says Kotoko must now hang on hopes to win the Ghana Premier League title after going down to Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

Hearts handed Kotoko their first defeat in 10 games after Daniel Afriyie Barnieh scored the solitary goal of the game at the Accra Sports Stadium in the Super Clash.

Kotoko needed the points to put themselves strongly in the race for the league title but the loss has complicated things leaving the Portuguese gaffer to admit that winning the league title will now not come any easy for his side.

“Of course Hearts now have three points more than us and its still three games but of course its difficult. Now the league title depends on the results Hearts of Oak churn out in the future. So we have to work and try to get our own points secured and wait to see what happens but its difficult,” he told Eli Kondoh in the post match interview.

Hearts of Oak will be declared champions of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League title if the Phobians win of two of their last three games in the league.

With the current situation even if the Porcupine Warriors manage to crawl back on points terms with the Phobians the leaders have better head to head over them.

Hearts drew 0-0 with Kotoko in the first round of the league and defeated 1-0 in the reverse fixture which has made them better than Kotoko on head to head.
