Stop Denying Racism, UN Tells Governments

The United Nations has called on states to stop denying racism and start dismantling it.

At the launch of a report commissioned after the killing last year in the US of George Floyd, the UN human rights chief, Michelle Bachelet, said addressing the legacy of systemic racism was the only way to do justice to his memory.

The report describes the current global situation as untenable.

It says people of African descent suffer disproportionately at the hands of law enforcement in many parts of the world.

It says they face discrimination when seeking jobs, housing and education, and accuses governments of failing to tackle the issue.
