The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has eulogised the late Upper East Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Latif Solomon Yenah, for his immense contribution to the growth of the party both in the region and the nation as a whole.
Dr Bawumia further observed that “the late Latif served the NPP for the greater part of his life and you can see that Latif loved the NPP and the entire NPP also loved Latif”.
Speaking during the 40 days Adua (final funeral rites) held for the late Yenah at Bongo last Saturday, the Vice President observed that the love and commitment shown by his relatives, party members, colleagues, government functionaries and community members in Bongo was a clear demonstration that they would continue to have fond memories of him.
“From the attendance you can undoubtedly see that our late brother Latif was loved very much both within and outside the party; the Upper East Region is fully represented here and the entire five Northern regions as well as regional youth organisers across the country, members of the council of state, former and present ministers of state are all here; may Allah have mercy on his soul," the Vice President stated.
Donation
Dr Bawumia said the late Yenah had done his part and that when he was even sick, he was so concerned about how best he could contribute for the party to win the 2020 general election.
“He lived to see the victory of the NPP in the 2020 elections but we will continue to pray for his soul; I am encouraged by the party's gesture to set up a fund for the upkeep of his children," the Vice President noted.
The Vice President later donated GH¢10,000 towards the establishment of a fund to cater for the late Yenah's widow and his four children and assured them that the party would always be there for them. Out of the total contributions of GH¢45,000 made by the party which included the Vice President’s donation, GH¢40,000 was set aside for the establishment of a fund for the widow and the four children left behind by Yenah while the remaining GH¢5,000 would be given to the family for their daily upkeep.
Tributes
Tributes were read by the NPP National Youth Organiser, Mr Henry Nana Boakye, on behalf of the National Youth Wing of the party and the children of the late Regional Youth Organiser, led by his first son, Sharkib Abdul-Latif Yenah, among others. Another tribute was delivered by the NPP Upper East Regional Assistant Secretary and Information Technology Coordinator, Mr Elvis Figo Atia Awonekai, on behalf of the Upper East Regional branch of the NPP.
One theme that ran through all the tributes was the vacuum created by the demise of Yenah, who was described “as an exceptional father, husband, brother, comrade and indeed a national asset”.
Mr Boakye, in his words, said, “History will remember Commander Latif as a loyal and distinguished patriot with exceptional grace and compassion for whom eschewing personal vendettas and embracing opponents was not just a political strategy but a way of life”.
Who was Latif?
Latif Solomon Yenah was born on May 3,1978 at Bongo in the Upper East Region to Mr Solomon Adulum and Mrs Felicia Alagoe Atanga.
He acquired a Higher National Diploma in Procurement from the then Tamale Polytechnic now Tamale Technical University.
He was a renowned politician, a staunch and card bearing member of the ruling NPP.
The late Yenah started his political life as a serial caller right after completing his second cycle education and later joined the streamline communication in the year 2002. He was called to join the Upper East Regional Communication Team the same year.
