CODA Outreach and Advocacy Team In Western Region Embarks On Outboard Motor Sensitization Exercise

The Outreach and advocacy team of Coastal Development Authority (CODA) in the Western Region has visited several landing sites and beaches to engage the canoe owners and Chief Fishermen concerning the CODA subsidised outboard motors initiative.

As part of their sensitization program held between 24th June to 1st July 2021, the team visited the Sekondi Naval Base, Albert Bosomtwi-Sam Fishing Harbour and Ngyiresia Landing beaches located in the Sekondi Constituency to interact with canoe owners and Chief Fishermen concerning the subsidised outboard motors Initiative by CODA.

“The team continued with the sensitization program by visiting the Chief of Kesewokan, Nana Kojo Mbia III in the Shama constituency as the place is one of the popular landing beaches in the constituency. The team later visited Bentir, Abuesi and Aboadze landing beaches all within the Shama constituency,” the lead officer of the team, Enoch Anyan disclosed.

“New Takoradi and Please communities within the Takoradi Constituency were also visited. The visits were purposely to engage Chief fishermen, canoe owners and other relevant stakeholders to create an awareness of the Suzuki 40HP subsidised outboard motors Initiative by CODA,” he added.

The sensitization program, according to him in a press release copied to Peacefmonline.com sent his team to the Ahanta West Constituency, to visit the Akwidae, Lower Dixcove, Upper Dixcove, Adjoa, Funko and New Amanfu landing beaches to continue with its Suzuki 40HP outboard motor awareness.

Mr Enoch Anyan noted that the Coastal Development Authority procured the outboard motors on the directive of His Excellency the President, to purposely help alleviate poverty within the fishing community by empowering them to do their business through the distribution of outboard motors at highly subsidized costs.

Under the intervention, a 40HP outboard motor which costs GHS20,000 is being sold for GHS10,000 representing a subsidy of 50 per cent. This initiative is funded from the Cedi equivalent of the $1 million per Constituency (1M1C) allocation under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).

He, however, announced that the second phase of the sensitization program will commence in other areas in the Western Region in the coming weeks.
