For most of the summer, much of the transfer talk around Chelsea had been about their pursuit of Norwegian hitman, Erling Haaland.
However, with Haaland's current club, Borussia Dortmund playing hard ball, Chelsea have turned their attention to Inter Milan forward, Romelu Lukaku.
News recently emerged that the Blues had tabled an £85 million bid for the Belgian international, which was swiftly rejected by the Italian champions.
Chelsea are expected to return with an improved offer.
It is highly likely that Lukaku will become a Chelsea player by the end of the transfer window.
But is Lukaku worth all the trouble?
Chelsea and Lukaku are no strangers to each other.
The Belgian first joined Chelsea from Anderlecht as an 18-year-old in August 2011, but he never managed to nail down a permanent shirt during that spell, and was sent on loan to West Bromwich Albion and Everton before joining Everton permanently in 2014.
His exploits for Everton earned him a big-money move to Manchester United, where he spent two seasons before departing for the Serie A.
Lukaku scored a respectable 28 goals in 66 appearances for United, but he never truly convinced the Old Trafford faithful and left in 2017.
Seemingly on a mission to prove his doubters wrong, Lukaku has had a sensational couple of seasons at Inter, powering the Nerazzurri to the title in his second year at the club.
Lukaku's exploits at Inter has made him one of the most in-demand forwards in Europe, along with Haaland, Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski.
European champions, Chelsea are in need of a prolific forward, and have identified Lukaku as a main target.
Chelsea may have won the Champions League last season, but the centre forward role remains a problematic area for the Blues.
Timo Werner endured a difficult first yea at Stamford Bridge, Kai Havertz doesn't look cut out for the role, and Tammy Abraham isn't really fancied by manager Tomas Tuchel. Olivier Giroud has since left the club for AC Milan.
Chelsea can do with a forward that can consistently find the back of the net, and Lukaku certainly ticks that box. More importantly, he has shown that he can score goals in the Premier League, having done so regularly for West Brom, Everton and United.
Lukaku offers a lot more than goals. His touch and hold-up play have got better, and he also brings great pace and power to the frontline.
At the moment, Chelsea are second favourites to win the Premier League, behind Manchester City. If they manage to get Lukaku, their odds will be even smaller on Premier League betting sites like betway.
The Belgian may not be as clinical as Haaland or Kane, but he makes up for it with other aspects of his game.
Is he worth north of £85 million?
Well, in the current market, absolutely.
When you consider that Tottenham Hotspur are demanding around £150 million for Kane, Lukaku at around £100 isn't a bad deal at all.
Inter Milan may have rejected Chelsea's first bid, but given the financial situation at the Italian club, an extra £10 - £15 million could be enough to force the Italian champions into selling their most prized asset.
