Akyem Begoro Salvation Army School In Tatters, Church And Old Alumni Plan Renovation

The dilapidated nature of Begoro Salvation Basic School has compelled the School Management Committee, the Salvation Army Church and the Old Students both Local and diaspora to solicit funds for rehabilitation works.

Speaking at the launch of the renovation of the school blocks themed "Kae Dabi Na Boa Nkyirimma" at Akyem Begoro, Fanteakwa North, Major Seth Baah, Head Pastor of Salvation Army Church Begoro, narrated that the school's deplorable state is a worrying development to all hence the decision by the church and old students to raise funds to revamp it by the close of the year 2021.

"The situation is affecting the academic progress of the school" Major Seth Baah Sobbed.

The plan to Renovate the dilapidated Salvation Army Basic school in Akyem Begoro was initiated by Some Alumni in the Diaspora led by Mr. George Boakye-Dankwa Akyeampong project coordinator UK, Salvation Army old students in UK, and Mrs. Margaret Mary Adu.

These Personalities were also acknowledged for their contributions and support towards the upcoming project.

The Honorary Consul of Ghana for the City of Calgary, Alberta and the Province of Saskatchewan and Minnesota, Canada, also the CEO of Aomega Group Inc. Calgary, Alberta.

Mr Kwame Anfo Antiri, old student and school member of the management committe , lamented on the bad condition of the school which has become a den for criminals.

He bemoaned that, the death trap structures in the school have become breeding ground for miscreants.

"The Smoking of weeds in the premises is due to the dilapidated nature of the school, lack of security presence and illumination.

These factors have contributed to making our school premises a hide out for criminals, and a brothel for some citizens of Akyem Begro in the night.

He added that, plans are far advanced to rehabilitate the school to improve teaching and learning.

He further commended the other old students group in the the diaspora especially Mr. George Boakye Dankwa Acheampong, the renovation project coordinator and his team for supporting the course when they discussed it and their desire to help at all stages.

Osabarima Agyei Amireku II, Akyem Osiem hene also a local representative for the old students on his part contributed to the planned rehabilitation programme for the school and the way forward.

Meanwhile, the district chief executive of Fanteakwa North, Mr. Charles Oware Tweneboa popularly called Sir COT said, plans are far advanced for a contractor to visit the school when contacted.

He explained that, government through Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) and the Assembly has awarded 6 unit classroom block for the Salvation Army Basic School and other schools the the district set to begin this year 2021.

He further commended the efforts of the Church and the alumni for the renovation works.

Teachers and pupils of Begoro Salvation Basic School allay fears that, their classroom blocks which have developed cracks may one day collapse on them.

They said, the school's enrollment is being affected due to the dilapidated nature of the school blocks.

The school was formerly an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) hub for the district but has now been shutdown and turned to criminals hideout.

They therefore thanked the church, alumni and the school management committee for coming to their aide.

The teachers and pupils, further call on government and all well meaning Ghanaians to come onboard to restore the past glory the school has chopped for socio-economic development of Fanteakwa North and Ghana as a whole.
