Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has asked naysayers to put on a can-do attitude and avoid negative comments as far as Agenda 111 is concerned.

The Agenda 111 initiative, which is aimed at building 111 district hospitals across the country will commence tomorrow, Tuesday, August 17, 2021.

Speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', he said completing the project will need a collective attitude and not negative comments like "it cannot be done".

"We will need a collective effort to complete these projects . . . we need the can-do spirit; the negative utterances won’t help us," he intimated.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayiribi constituency said the projects will commence concurrently with a commencement funding of US$100m.

He disclosed that government has successfully secured sites and land titles for 88 out of the 101 district hospitals and each unit would cost US$16.88 million including Civil works and equipment, covering 15 acres fit for purpose.

He has urged the contractors to be committed to delivering quality projects and in good time.

"We must have the objective at the back of our mind that this is a collective work," he indicated.

Payment of contractors

Ghana is often bedevilled with the non-payment of road contractors leading to the neglect of some roads.

However, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says government is committed to paying the contractors.

According to him, the issue of non-payment of contractors in the country can be confronted collectively.

"This issue is not solved by promises, it is a collective effort .  . . we have to confront this conversation asking how much have been paid into the road fund . . . we have to stop playing ostrich with our road fund issues and make sure that we’re adequately funding a road fund . . . we need to remove the capping on road funds and increase the amount being paid into it," he added.

About Agenda 111

Agenda 111 was announced by President Akufo-Addo in April last year.

It includes 101 district hospitals, six regional hospitals in the newly created regions, two specialized hospitals in the middle and northern belts, as well as a regional hospital in the Western Region and renovation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

The objective of the Project is to significantly deepen the delivery of quality healthcare at the district level, boost access to healthcare services for all citizens towards ensuring the attainment of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal Three.
