I Can Operate Komenda Sugar Factory - Give Me The Mandate - John Dumelo

Ghanaian actor turned agriculture-entrepreneur, John Dumelo has revealed his desire to make the defunct Komenda Sugar Factory work again.

John’s revelation comes after a JoyNews editorial titled  “Komenda Sugar Factory: A rusting investment”

Taking to social media, he wrote:

“I can revive the Komenda sugar factory if given the mandate. That factory will start producing sugar within 16 months (Considering planting and harvesting of sugarcane). The factory needs about 200,000 tons of sugarcane(pa) to operate at full capacity. We can do it!”

The old factory built in 1964 became defunct about 30 years ago as a result of technical difficulties and mismanagement. Resuming operations at the factory was a perfect opportunity to do things right, this time around.

The factory which can crush 1250 tonnes of sugar cane daily was expected to put a permanent smile on the faces of the farmers who would directly feed the factory with raw materials and get paid.

The factory on was restored and commissioned by former president John Mahama on 30th May 2016 and 7,300 jobs were expected to be created when the factory runs fully but the dream has since not been accomplished.

I can revive the Komenda sugar factory if given the mandate. That factory will start producing sugar within 16 months( considering planting and harvesting of sugarcane). The factory needs about 200,000 tons of sugarcane(pa) to operate at full capacity. We can do it!
