What started as an excitement for some final year students of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) following the completion of their final examination last Tuesday has ended in a tragedy.
One student, identified as Sani Majeed fell and broke his neck and spine during a somersault.

He died on Thursday night at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra after spending two days in hospital.

Graphic Online's Gilbert Mawuli Agbey reports that Sani Majeed had joined his colleagues from the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports (HPERS) of the UEW in an attempt to express their excitement with some acrobatic free-style display.

It however turned tragic when Majeed fell down and broke his neck and spine in an attempt to somersault.

Prior to the incident, Graphic Online understands he was in the company of his colleagues exhibiting their gymnastic skills at the north campus of the UEW.

This was after writing their final exams last Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

Majeed and his friends took turns to display their acrobatic skills at a car park close to the department to the admiration of other students.

But Majeed in the course of a somersault fell down and broke his neck and spine on the concrete floor.

A video of the incident has since been shared on social media.

According to information gathered from some students, Majeed was first taken to the Trauma and Specialist hospital in Winneba and was referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

He died on Thursday, September 9, 2021 evening while receiving treatment at Korle Bu.

Confirming the incident to Graphic Online on Friday [September 10], the Public Relations Officer of UEW, Mr Ernest Azutigah said that it was very unfortunate for Majeed to die under such bizarre circumstances.
