I’ll Complete All Abandoned Projects - Says Ex-Prez Mahama

The former president John Dramani Mahama has accused the Akufo-Addo-led government of abandoning major projects across the country started by his administration.

According to him, the act of discontinuing projects started by previous governments is just being introduced by the current government, describing it as “unfortunate and disturbing”.

“It is sad and disheartening. What I can say is, it is this government that has started it.

“I was in Rawlings’s administration as a deputy minister and later a minister. When we handed over to President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration, I never saw or heard that a contractor was stopped from continuing a project.

“He completed all projects, I didn’t see any abandoned project. It was the same in the late President Mills’s government and I also continued after Mills.

“It is this government that has asked all contractors to stop their work for review. It’s been five years and some works are still under review and have been left abandoned.”

2024 promise
Mahama said the NDC if given the nod in the 2024 elections will see to the completion of all abandoned projects in the country.

“I have said that when the NDC comes to power in 2024, for the first year or two, the NDC will focus on finishing all abandoned projects. It doesn’t mean we will not do any new projects – of course urgent or emergent projects will be done, when need be – but resources will be geared towards completing all abandoned projects for the benefit of Ghana.”

Lambasted
The 2020 defeated presidential candidate of the NDC is on a two-day visit to the Ashanti Region as part of his nationwide “thank you” tour.

He is expected to meet selected religious leaders and chiefs as well as the party faithful and other unidentified groups in the region.

Meanwhile, a group calling itself NDC Ashanti Youth released a statement before Mahama’s visit to region lambasting the former president for neglecting the area during his time in office.

The group said the party needs a new flagbearer who will build a “formidable” party going into Election 2024.

However, the press statement has been condemned by the Ashanti Regional communications officer of the NDC, Abass Nurudeen. He has described it as faceless and an “ill-conceived release from the stables of the New Patriotic Party”.
