Ejura Murder Report: We're Blaming The Wrong People For What Occurred - Pratt

Seasoned journalist, Kwesi Pratt believes certain people being held culpable for the tragic incident at Ejura Sekyedumase as spelt out in the recommendations by a three-member Committee, are rather blameless.

The Committee was probing the circumstances that led to the demise of Ibrahim Mohammed, popularly known as 'Kaaka' and other two residents who joined a protest seeking justice for Kaaka.

The two met their untimely death during a clash with a Military personnel.

The Committee, in their findings, listed ten (10) recommendations and among them is that there should be a ''structural expansion of the Ejura Police Station and an increase in personnel''.

They further recommended ''the Military Establishment review the actions of the Section on the ground, led by Lieutenant Martin Opoku Adusei, for the inappropriate use of force, and apply appropriate sanctions''.

Mr. Pratt lambasted the Committee for shifting the blame on Lt. Martin Opoku Adusei.

To him, the Military firing gunshots to disperse the agitated crowd at Ejura was not the fault of the Lieutenant.

Contributing to ''Kokrokoo'' panel discussion on Peace FM, he stated; ''We all know that the soldiers, we haven't trained them for crowd control. They have no training for crowd control. If you followed the Commission very well, everyone said the soldiers only come in as the last resort. If the Police couldn't handle it, then they need greater force and so we are bringing force''.

''Why do you blame the officer? Why do you blame the officer? How do you blame him? Did the officer go there on his own accord?'', he asked.

He held a strong view that Lt. Opoku Adusei is being used as a scapegoat.

''...he was given orders knowing the inadequacies of the Military in crowd control. Why blame him? Another scapegoat; clear scapegoat!...I think we're blaming the wrong people for what happened there'', he said.
