We School Under a Makeshift Hut And Have Only Three Textbooks - Abrem Essiam AME Zion Pupils Cry

Students of Abrem Essiam AME Zion basic school, a sub-community in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) municipality in the Central Region, have called on the government to come to their aid.

According to the students, the school has only three text books.

“They sometimes learn in batches as a result of the inadequate textbooks.”

The students also revealed they lack toilet facility, therefore finding it difficult to ease themselves.

They revealed further challenges saying, "we have to close from school and go home and sometimes when it rains, we can't cross the bridge leading to the school because it's a death trap".

"The whole school has only one cupboard where we all keep our books, making teaching and learning difficult.

"We sit under a makeshift huts covered with roofting sheet, we have no table to write on and the chair we sit on is made with bamboo. Also the road to the school is bad and when it rains we find it difficult to climb the hill to the school. We fell so many times when it rained because the road was slippery."

Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Patience Amoah Jefferson appealed to stakeholders, NGOs and government among other benevolent organizations “to pay attention to the plight of the school . . . the school has been deprived of the national cake”.

The students disclosed this to Peace News Central Regional Correspondent Sally Ngissah when she visited the school.
