Cape Coast Assembly Members Reject MCE Nominee Ernest Arthur For The Second Time

Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly members have rejected the President’s MCE nominee for the second time.

The nominee, Mr. Ernest Arthur failed to meet the two-thirds majority of the second vote held yesterday.

He polled 40 'Yes' out of the 65 valid votes cast making it 61.5℅.

The election was characterized by tension amidst heavy security presence.

The session which was expected to start at 4pm yesterday started after 8pm with Assembly members still declining the nominee.

Central Regional Minister, Mrs Justina Marigold Assan had to kneel down to appeal to the Assembly members to vote for the nominee to become MCE saying, "the Region will suffer a great deal if they fail to endorse him to continue projects he had started."

“If we fail to endorse him, it will take a heavy toll on the Central Region because projects he started may not be continued and this will affect us all, regardless of our political colour.”

Mrs. Assan was accompanied by Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Transport Minister Mr. Kweku Ofori Asiamah, some NPP supporters and Mr. Kweku Ricketts to help get members of the Assembly who declined to support the nominee.

After failing to meet the stipulated votes, sitting was adjourned to a later date to allow the house to reconvene for the final voting.
