We noted four talking points from the weekend.

Hearts of Oak Ill fate at Home.

Hearts of Oak started the championship with the wrong foot on Sunday. Despite creating several chances and dominating the game, they couldn't score a goal. In the first half, Hearts cleared the ball off the line, but Legon Goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi made two exceptional saves. Even with Salifu Ibrahim's near goal and other chances, Hearts could only draw the match.

Legon Cities held their defence well and endured the three-man attack of Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Kofi Kordzi and Isaac Mensah. Konadu's team almost scored at the last minute, but Phobians Goalkeeper Richard Attah saved the day.

At the end of the match, the Champions felt defeated as their performance could have brought them wins, but luck was not on their side this time. In the same vein, Legon Cities felt proud of their performance.

Asante Kotoko Turnaround

Kotoko started the season with a 3-1 win over Dreams FC. The porcupines had a rough time last season, losing the GPL title to the Hearts and the quarterfinals in the MTN FA Cup.

With new players on board and many other factors, fans were skeptical of their performance before the match. But Kotoko proved their ability to take back their title this period by scoring three goals in the second half to win Dream 3-1

Dreams FC was a tough nut to crack with their youngest player and winger Fatawu Issahaku opening the second half with a great goal.

Their goalkeeper Agbasi also had an incredible ability to hold off goals from their opponent.

Ten minutes to the finish, Kotoko players Mudasiru Salifu, Isaac Oppong and Richmond Lamptey each made a win to score three goals before the final whistle.

Undefeated GPL Debutants

Three newcomers to the Ghanaian Premier League also played during the weekend, and we are awed with their skills. Bibiani Goldstars, Accra Lions and Real Tamale United played at home, and none were won.

Accra Lions played on 29th October and drew with Elmina Sharks. Courtesy of Striker Rauf Salifu, who scored at the 83rd minute.

Bibiani Gold Stars played next on Sunday afternoon with Berekum Chelsea. They started as if unprepared, but the 53rd strike goal from Kingsford Boafo changed the narrative.

Real Tamale United drew 1-1 with Great Olympics in the evening. David Abagna equalized Olympics Raymond Oko Grippman's first-half strike with a penalty.

Medeama Thrashed

Like the Hearts, Medeama began the season on the wrong side, suffering a 4-0 defeat by Bechem United. Emmanuel Avornyo scored a brace, while Francis Twene and Augustine Okrah scored a win each. Bechem United's stunning start has us wondering if the squad will go all the way to win the championship this season or if they will suffer a setback like last season.
