The Member of Parliament(MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency and a Deputy Majority Whip in Parliament, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, has advocated financial support for women in Africa who took advantage of the outbreak of Covid-19 to create businesses for themselves such as soap making and other income generating activities to enable such women sustain and grow their businesses to help reduce women unemployment on the continent.

Lydia Seyram Alhassan made the appeal in Abuja, Nigeria, in her contribution to a discussion on the "Gender Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic at the ongoing Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference".

She said prior to the outbreak of Covid-19, products like hand sanitizers and disinfectants were mostly imported, but women took up the challenge and ventured into the production of these products as well as restaurants and delivery services and must therefore be supported to grow their businesses.

Also at the same function the MP for Banda and Deputy Minority Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim said the Covid time was the period that the Parliament of Ghana passed the highest number of laws.

He said the Parliament of Ghana was not shut down because of the effective measures put in place during the peak time of the pandemic.
