Drowning Tragedy: I Share Your Pains; Very Painful To Lose a Child - Nana Akomea Consoles Bereaved Families

Managing Director of State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has expressed utter disgust over the drowning tragedy in the Northern Region involving nine JHS students.

The nine students reportedly met their untimely death after their Headmaster, Emmanuel Chinja, took some 31 students of his school to work on his rice farm.

The students drowned while returning from the farm after a canoe they were crossing the River Oti with capsized last Friday evening.

Emmanuel Chinja, Headmaster of the St Charles Lwanga Junior High School (JHS) in Saboba in the Northern Region, has been arrested by the Police and charged with manslaughter.

He was arraigned in Tamale court on Monday and remains in Police custody to assist in investigations.

Reacting to the issue during a panel discussion on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', Nana Akomea was alarmed by the Headmaster's action wondering why he would send the school children to his farm.

He commiserated with the bereaved families, having difficulties feeling the way they are feeling after losing their children.

"It's painful that, no fault of you, no fault of your child and you take care of these children and they put them in danger. It's painful!'', he said.

Nana Akomea called on the general public to contribute to help the bereaved families although stressing nothing can replace their loss.
