There Will Be Abundance of Food In Ghana Next Year - Allotey Jacobs

A social commentator, Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has refuted claims of food insecurity under President Nana Akufo-Addo's administration.

Speculations are rife that Ghana will experience famine next year if nothing is done to secure the agriculture sector, particularly concerning food products.

Consequently, prices of food products in the market are reportedly currently rising up making it scary for Ghanaians to anticipate what to happen in the future.

But Allotey Jacobs, known to be a farmer and once a Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has rather commended the Akufo-Addo government believing it has stabilized the country's food security.

To him, contrary to reports of food shortage, there is an abundant food supplies in the country.

He stressed there will be no famine in Ghana but, however, advised the government to encourage more Ghanaians to go into farming emphasizing it's the backbone of the economy.

"All that Ghanaians are looking for is three-square meal a day. So, if they don't get three but two, you have to explain it to them that this or that is why they are not having three-square meals. The claim by some critic that, by next year, there will be famine in Ghana. I want to say it's falsehood. There will be an abundance of food next year''

"If this country will grow, what will contribute to our GDP is farming...Investing in the people, investing in the Ghanaian farmers is also as equal as investing in your own economy to make sure our economy is vibrant," he said on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo''.
