June 4 Movement Urges NDC Supporters To Close Ranks

The Upper West Regional branch of the June 4 Movement has called on supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to close their ranks and rally round President John Evans Atta Mills. This, the Movement said would enable the NDC to retain power in the 2012 polls. The Movement cautioned supporters, national executives and patrons of the NDC to avoid all forms of sentimentalism. A solidarity message signed by Mr Geoffrey W. Tuu, Regional Secretary of the Movement, to mark June 4 celebrations said unity was needed to help enhance the chances of the party in the 2012 General Election and advised that the sentimentalism being displaced by members should be relegated to the background. Mr Tuu said the present intra-party wrangling was not the best since it was leading to disaffection among the teaming supporters of the party. The language so far being used by those who want to wrest power from the sitting President is rather unfortunate. For whatever reason, they should not move away from the convention known by all in this country not to contest a sitting president at the Congress. Mr Tuu said what was happening in the party was unhealthy and appealed to NDC faithful to unite at the Sunyani congress and make it a peaceful one. We are optimistic that we would come out stronger after the Sunyani Congress but that depends on everyone, putting all acrimony behind. The Movement salutes all gallant soldiers including former President Jerry John Rawlings whose actions marked the positive turning point of Ghanas history. Mr Tuu said the cumulative effects of June 4 brought political stability, democratic dispensation and rule of law to Ghanaians.
