Kwasi Kwarteng Speaks On 44,000 Teachers Resigning From The Basic Schools In 2021

Based on the verified EMIS data for 2020/2021, the actual figures that account for the difference in the total number of teachers between 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 is 34,424 and not 44,000 as wrongly speculated. So in the first place Dr. Apaak used wrong figures for his wrong conclusion in the first place.

This difference does not represent teachers who have resigned from the service as he wrongly speculates. Rather it includes NABCO personnel, National Service personnel & Teacher Trainees on teaching practice who were excluded from the 2020/2021 Annual school census.

Their exclusion was done to provide the Ghana education service the true and actual data on Pupil Teacher Ratio (TPR) & Pupil Trained Teacher Ratio (PRTR) at the basic school. They never resigned!

In terms of teacher resignation, our official records show that 293 teachers left the profession in 2021 whilst 155 left the GES in 2020.

For avoidance of doubt I encourage Dr. Clement Apaak & Kofi Asare of Eduwatch to cross-check these figures with Controller & Accountants General Department.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. At no point must we be hasty in throwing aspersions.
We must also not hesitate to seek clarification on matters that we are not clear. And we must make conscious efforts to desist from speculative assumptions & deliberate misrepresentation of facts.

It doesn’t help!
