Apeatsi Explosion: Community Can Inhabited - EPA Boss

The Environmental Protection Agency Boss, Hon Henry Kwabena Kokofu has revealed that per their partial observation as an Agency, Apeatsi Community can be rehabilitated and inhabited.

He said he has therefore advised the MCE for Pretsea Huni Valley and his office to officially place a request before the EPA for an environmental permit to rebuild the community.

Apeatse, a mining community near Bogoso in the Western Region last Thursday witnessed an explosion when a truck transporting dynamite to a mining site had an accident.

The explosion killed several residents injuring scores. Hundreds have been rendered homeless.

After the incident, many stakeholders had visited the community to commiserate with the bereaved and the affected people.

The Vice President of Ghana, His Excellency Dr Mahamadu Bawumia on his visit assured the community of government intentions to rebuild the community.

Section of Ghanaians have raised questions about the security and health-wise of the environment after Dr Bawumia’s pronouncements.

However, the recent remark of the EPA Boss, Dr Kokofu has come to address the concerns of these people.

Hon Kokofu who arrived at the scene with his team donated 200 bags of cement to support the community.

He said in the meantime, EPA would be teaming up with other sister institutions like Minerals Commission, Forestry Commission, Geological Service to support the community.
