Appiatse Explosion: Govt Sets Up Two Committees

Government has set two committees to look into issues surrounding the explosion that occurred at Appiatse in the Western Region.

The first committee will be "looking at the health and safety framework of the mining industry" and the second will "focus on investigating what actually led to the explosion".

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker said the committees have two weeks to submit their report.

He further urged that "all hands must be on deck" to bring normalcy to Appiatse.

Meanwhile, government has launched a support fund to provide assistance to persons affected by the fatal explosion.

The fund will be managed by a five-member committee led by Rev. Joyce Aryee, Founder of Salt and Light Ministries.

The rest are: Tetrete Okuamoah Sakyi II, Omanhene of WassaAmenfi Traditional Area; Philip Owiredu, Managing Director of CAL Bank and Sulemana Koney, Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Mines.
