MP For New Edubiase Calls For Measures To Address Student Accommodation Challenges

The Member of Parliament for New Edubiase constituency, Hon Adams Abdul-Salam, has appealed to government to come out with policies that will enhance Build, Operate and Transfer system in the provision of accommodation for students in public universities in the country to encourage private sector people to invest in provision of accommodation for students.

Hon Adams Abdul-Salam also urged government to take urgent steps to provide accommodation for the increasing number of students in public universities in order to help ease the difficulties experienced by students.

Making a statement in Parliament on accommodation challenges in public universities in the country, Hon Adams Abdul-Salam said the cost of accommodation for students on campus is too high there by making it difficult for students of financially poor parents to afford.

He said apart from traditional halls on campus, the average residential fee ranges between two thousand five hundred (Ghc 2, 500 . 00 ) to twelve thousand cedis ( Ghc 12,000.00 ) a year which is expensive for students from poor families.
