The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has threatened to embark on industrial action over market premium payment delays by the government.

The association says its members are equally hard hit by the “worsening” conditions of service of public university workers and therefore urging immediate restoration of the premium.

The threat by GAUA comes amid the ongoing strike by public university teachers.

The members of the association include general administrators, accountants, medical officers, pharmacists, public affairs specialists and architects and any industrial action would paralyze the universities.

A statement jointly signed by its National President, Mr. Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, and General Secretary, Felix Adu-Poku, a copy was made available to the Ghana News Agency in Cape Coast, expressed disquiet about the current happenings on the various campuses and asked that the government acted quickly to avert a complete shutdown of public universities.

“GAUA shall surely stand by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) in demanding what has been legitimately requested from the government.

“Consequently, any delay in restoring the Interim Market Premium of 114 percent on our basic salary, GAUA will have no choice than to embark on industrial action.

“GAUA is calling on stakeholders, especially government, its agents and assigns to immediately and with all seriousness required, resolve all labour agitations to avoid a total shutdown of public universities.”
