Facilitate Election Of New Executives To Council; Members Of National Inland Canoe Fishermen Charge NAFAG

Some concerned members of the National Inland Canoe Fishermen Council are calling on the National Fisheries Association of Ghana, NAFAG, to as a matter of urgency lead a roadmap towards the election of new national executives to the council.

According to the disgruntled members, the tenure of office of the current executives has expired about a year ago making them incompetent to perform their duties.

Speaking to Citi news, the former National Secretary of NAFAG, Samson Mahu, said the concerned members made up of fishermen who ply their occupation on the Volta Lake are unable to access premix fuel and other input for fishing because the current leadership is unable to advocate for their interest.

According to the members, an election must be held in the coming days to constitute new leadership to advance the course of fishermen on the Volta Lake.

“The inland fishermen wish to inform the government and all stakeholders that, currently the National Inland Canoe Fishermen Council has no recognized executives” he added.

He further called on key stakeholders to endeavor to join their course to revamp the “once vibrant association”.
