EDIF Suspends 3 Top Men

Three top management officials of the Export Development and Investment Fund (EDIF) have been temporarily relieved of their duties. They include the Acting Chief Executive, Agyabeng Antwi Agyei, the Director of Finance, Atta Quansah and the Director of Audit, Kobina Ohemeng Ntiamoah. A letter from the Board dated May 30, 2011 directed the three to proceed on leave with immediate effect, although no reasons were assigned. Citi Business News however gathers the move is to facilitate investigations into the EDIF operations so far especially that related to the over 12 thousand acre Mango Plantations project in the 3 northern regions. This, sources say, could also form part of restructuring initiatives by the new board Chairman, Prof Francis Dodoo, who took over from Peter Illiasu a couple of months ago. Mr Agyabeng Antwi Agyei was part of the team that institutionalized the EDIF concept at the initial stages. He was the Director in charge of Export Promotions before assuming the position of Acting Chief Executive. In his absence, the Head of Legal Affairs and Administration, Cynthia Pamela Addo has been authorized to take over in the same Acting position. EDIF was established in October 2000 to provide financial resources at concessionary rates mainly to develop the export trade.
