Dr. Otchere-Ankrah Cautions Road Users Against Traffic Offences

Governance Lecturer at Central University, Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, has bemoaned the character of some road users resulting in road accidents.

Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, speaking on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', cautioned vehicle drivers who overspeed and undertake reckless overtaking as well as engage in other road offences to desist from such practices.

Narrating an incident where he was once stopped by a Police officer for overspeeding and, by mercy of the officer, who decided not to charge him for any offence but rather detained him to rest for an hour before making his journey, Dr. Otchere-Ankrah believed a little caution on the road will save lots of people from dangers and accidents.

He also charged the road safety authorities including the MTTD and the general public to serve as a check on reckless driving to avoid road carnage and further advised road users to obey traffic rules and regulations.

To paraphrase his advice to road users, Dr. Otchere-Ankrah said; ''Sometimes, you will see that a driver, especially those who go on long journeys, is very tired but will still be driving instead of taking a rest. Even taking a five-minute or 20 minutes break to sleep [at Linda Dor] is so refreshing but what do we see? You will see a driver eating snacks or toffees or drinking energy drinks in order to sustain himself through the driving which is risky. I call on the Police, drivers, passengers, in fact everyone to be each other's keeper; report road offences and ensure that drivers obey the traffic regulations.''
