Mandatory Wearing of Nose Masks Should Have Stayed - Nana Akomea 'Disagrees' With President

STC Chief Executive Officer, Nana Akomea, has shared his displeasure with the lifting of mandatory wearing of nose masks as announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo in his 28th update on the COVID-19 pandemic.

The President, on Sunday, March 27, declared that from Monday, 28th March "the wearing of face masks is no longer mandatory. I encourage all of you though to continue to maintain enhanced hand hygiene practices and avoid overcrowded gatherings".

He also directed there will be no more PCR test at the Kotoka International Airport.

"From tomorrow, Monday, 28th March, fully vaccinated travellers into Ghana will not take PCR tests from the country of embarkation to allow them entry into the country through the KIA, and will not be tested on arrival.

“Citizens and foreign residents in Ghana, who are not fully vaccinated, would, however, need to provide a negative PCR test result of not more than 48-hours, will undergo an antigen test upon arrival at KIA, and will be offered vaccination there,” he said.

But Nana Akomea isn't enthused by the directive for Ghanaians to choose whether to wear the nose masks or not.

He noted that the nose masks have been effective in the prevention of the deadly viral disease and, to him, ending its wearing shouldn't have been part of the President's decisions.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', Nana Akomea asserted that, "the wearing of the nose masks should have stayed because the COVID-19 is not gone yet''.

He, therefore, advised Ghanaians to continue wearing nose masks, particularly in public space, to avoid contracting the disease.

Nana Akomea also urged the citizens who haven't yet been vaccinated to take the vaccine jab seriously and go for vaccination in order to help bring Ghana back to normalcy.
