Egypt Boss Carlos Queiroz Steps Down After Failing To Reach The 2022 Qatar World Cup

Carlos Queiroz has announced his departure from the Egyptian national team after failing to reach the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Pharaohs were defeated 3-1 on penalties to Senegal in the World Cup play-off qualifier in Dakar on Tuesday evening.

The match ended 1-0 to Senegal after 120 minutes and 1-1 on aggregate just weeks after Senegal beat Egypt on penalties in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Liverpool star Sadio Mane delivered the winning spot kick as Senegal edged Egypt on penalties at the end of a tempestuous World Cup playoff second leg.

Mohamed Salah, Ahmed Sayed Zizo, and Mostafa Mohamed missed Egypt’s penalties in the shootout.

The former Real Madrid manager has now brought his short stint in charge of the national team to a close after only taking over the reins in September after not being able to guide Egypt to their fourth-ever World Cup.

Queiroz posted on Twitter: 'Dream is over. From the bottom of my heart, my gratitude to Egypt Federation for this honour of coaching the National Team.

'To all my players and my staff, my recognition and humble thank you so much,' he added. 'You will be always in my heart.
